Title:
The Holy Virgin Mary
Details:
2.5'x18"x12"
Currently
in the collection of Andrew Glaysher at his mother's house in Madison,
Wisconsin.
This was the first
religious icon I ever made, and she was built in two phases. The first
stage, done in 1996, was rough and utilized only a lamp-base as the main
body. 3 years later, I came back to the piece, added the dress and a pregnant
belly. Voila! Immaculate conception. She has a light inside her ribcage
and a rosary around her neck which is from a shrine in Necedah, Wisconsin
where the image of the Virgin Mary would appear to a young girl who also
recieved the stigmata in the 50's. Afew years back, my friend who I traded
this piece to for a painting suddenly returned from Spain because his
mother was in the hospital, near death with a ruptured spleen. Miraculously,
she came back from the brink and was soon doing fine. I like to think
Mary helped.
