Doll-parts Bust

Details:
3'x3'x3.5'

Currently at the artist's apartment in Brooklyn.

It's funny how if you do one sculpture using a doll-head, people start throwing handfuls of the things at you. By this point I had so many I just wanted to try using them all up. The figure that emerged has elicited a strong reaction from all who've seen it. The near bi-polar dichotomy of peoples' responses to this piece is very interesting. I've found that everyone either thinks it's awesome, or they're totally freaked out. There's really no grey area. I suppose it's a response that was programmed in our brains as children, depending on if we played with dolls or tortured them. In any event, a strong reaction is great to get, much better than no reaction at all.

The interesting thing about dolls is that most animistic cultures regard them as sacred, powerful objects and only trust shamens with making or possessing them. Here, we throw them by the bushel at little kids then tell them to go off and play.
